Welcome!

The RRC4 represents the nexus of some of the latest technologies available today, and makes them available to everyone flying rockets of all types. From Class 1 mod-rocs, to extreme Class 3 projects, the RRC4 is ready to ride inside whatever rocket project you can imagine.


The RRC4 is ready to fly dual deployment duties as it comes right out of the box, providing a drogue event at apogee and main event at 500 ft AGL. This is your simple guide for the “I want to fly it now and read the User Manual later” individual.


The RRC4 is a combination "inertial + barometric" altimeter.  It needs to sample air to take its readings and function correctly. It must be solidly mounted in an avionics bay in 1 of 3 specific orientations for the inertial sensor to operate.  It must also have vent holes in the bay to sample air pressure as the rocket travels up (ascent) and down (descent). 


The RRC4 will "beep" out continuity before flight, telling you all connections are GO for flight; and upon landing will "beep" out your max altitude.  In addition it is Bluetooth (BLE) capable and provides wireless pre-launch launch status and post-launch data results via our mDACS Web App: www.mDACSWeb.missileworks.com


The app runs with the following browsers for most ALL platforms:

  • Chrome, Edge, Opera, Internet Explorer, and Samsung Internet. 
  • If you’re an iPhone or iPad user, you must run the Bluefy browser (available Free in the App Store).

BAT+ and BAT- / Connect power from your battery and power switching here

DROGUE / Low current e-match for first charge that fires (apogee)

MAIN / Low current e-match  for second charge that fires (500' main parachute)

Batteries
The RRC4 is designed to be powered with a
3.7V a 1S Lithium Battery ONLY.  Batteries must be mounted solidly in a battery box, zip tied,  etc.  Always check the battery voltage before installing & before each flight! Even new batteries can be defective and have sub-par voltage.


Vent Holes
Vent holes in the avionics bay allow the altimeter to sample air pressure. 
Here are some 3-hole approximation examples for simplicity:

A. 38 mm by 6 in. ( 3 x 1/16” holes )
B.  54 mm by 7 in. ( 3 x 1/8" holes )
C.  3 in. by 9 in. ( 3 x 5/32” holes )
D.  4 in. by 12 in. ( 3 x 3/16” holes )
E.  6 in. by 18 in. ( 3 x 1/4"holes )


Make sure when drilling holes they are clean and clear from fuzz and debris for smooth, clear airflow. Locate your vent holes equally spaced around the avionics bay in a single circumference.  If you want more information about proper venting sizes, refer to the RRC4 User Manual section on Static Pressure Ports. 


At The PAD

  • Power up your RRC4 on the Rail
    This Quick Start presumes you’ve performed your required project due diligence for  flight.  This example uses the default “out of the box” setup (Drogue @ Apogee / Main @ 500’ AGL), and your RRC4 mounted in the default
    +X orientation.

  • Connect to your RRC4
    Provided your RRC4 passes all of its flight readiness POST operations (Power On Self Test), it will start beeping continuity (2 beeps / Drogue & Main).  Technically you’re ready to launch, however, you’ve got your mobile device at the ready.  Fire up your browser, launch the mDACS app, then click the  Launch  button.

  • Review your Readiness Status
    When connected, you should see the  Launch  view, which will resemble the screenshot below. This view provides you with a COMPLETE, single-pane summary of all sensors, power, event continuity, and event settings for your flight.  Here is where you check all is GO FOR LAUNCH!


Post Flight Data Review

When you first connect to your RRC4 in UI Mode, you’ll land at the Flights View. All your RRC4 Flight Data is available here for review in an intuitive, easily consumable summary. Additional Flight and Event performance charting is also available at the click of a button.


The mDACS Web app is designed to deliver immediate post-flight or prior-flight results with the ease and familiarity provided by your personal mobile device. The browser-based operations make this a seamlessly simple process, and while comprehensive, it’s not the end-all of Flight Data analytics.


For advanced users who want to dive in deeper beyond what’s provided by mDACS, the RRC4 provides a USB-based CLI (Command Line Interpreter) that supports a CSV (spreadsheet ready) export operation for capture in a serial terminal app (we recommend PuTTY / see the CLI reference).
